Education & Cultural Outreach
Turn a suit of armour into a lesson in science, history and skilled making.
Discuss your programmeFAC builds sessions around what your audience needs to learn, from elementary school through undergraduate study. Public schools, library systems, historical societies and community organisations can discuss volunteer or in-kind delivery alongside paid programming.
The STEAM programme scales from a single station to a rotating multi-station session. Live forge work is considered only where the venue permits it; cold-forming demonstrations and recorded material provide alternatives.
Offering 01
STEAM Workshop Programme
Three linked strands bring materials science to life. Impact physics explores how curvature, thickness, articulation and padding affect force and energy transfer. Chemistry and metallurgy compare steel grades, hardening, tempering, brittleness, material fatigue and corrosion protection such as blueing, parkerising and oiling. Blacksmithing follows flat stock into fitted plate through dishing, raising, planishing and heat treatment. Supervised armour handling and demonstrations are adapted to the learning level.
